We continue our Friday Movie series with the film Romero, which debuted in 1989 and is directed by John Duigan and stars Raul Julia.
The film is a drama about Oscar Romero, a bishop in El Salvador, who was killed on March 24, 1980. He had spoken publicly against military violence towards the people. He spoke before large crowds, calling for justice for the poor and the oppressed. He was known as a voice for the voiceless. In 2018, he was declared a saint by Pope Francis. His memorial on the liturgical calendar of El Salvador is March 24.
