Anointing of the Sick is offered on the 1st Friday of each month after both morning Masses with Confessions available 30 minutes prior.
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is not just for those who are terminally ill but for those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age. The Sacrament is also for those who are about to undergo anesthesia for surgery or have a serious condition such as depression. The Sacrament is considered overused when it is given to those who have occasional illnesses.
The main grace that is given in the Sacrament of Anointing is the spiritual healing of the person. There could possibly be physical healing of the person, but the main reason we receive the Sacrament is to be given the graces to endure illness and to give us the grace needed in recuperation of an illness.
It is important to note that the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick always heals us of our venial sins, but does NOT always heal us of our mortal sins. The sacrament only heals us of our mortal sins whenever we are unable to go to Confession, mainly due to incapacity such as a coma or impending death. Therefore, it is important that we go to Confession if we are aware of mortal sin on our soul before receiving the Sacrament.
The Sacrament may be received more than once, such as in the case when a sick person recovers after being anointed, and, at a later time, becomes sick again or during the same illness the condition of the sick person becomes more serious.
In addition to our Thursday evening confessions and our Saturday evening confessions, on First Fridays, Confessions are available before both Masses, 6:45 AM (confessions from 6:15-6:40 AM) and 8:30 AM (confessions from 7:45-8:20 AM).
Please do not hesitate to contact either priest to receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick if you meet the conditions for the Sacrament. Please do not hesitate to contact both of us, as well, if you or another Catholic is in need of Anointing, whether at home or in the hospital, day or night.
